freedom

Last Wednesday was my final day working in Harlem.

That sentence felt really good. Let me say it again. Last Wednesday was my final day working in Harlem.

That felt like a shower. You know, the one after a long day, one so long that you’re too tired to get yourself to the shower, and you’re dreading getting up from your couch to walk to the bathroom, where inevitably your shower is. And somehow on this kind of day, you dread dragging yourself to the room where you’ll have to raise your arms long enough to lather the shampoo in your hair, because damn you’re so tired. You can’t just yet, but when you do — when you finally get off your ass, it’s ohmygodamazing, and you can’t even move. You just stand underneath the flowing hot water, and all you feel is release.

It took me a long time to get out of Harlem, but here I am. Cleansed. A free agent. I don’t even know what to do with myself, so I’m just going to go to Vietnam and figure my shit out.  See you soon.
